A Few Ways We’re Working Behind the Scenes This Holiday Season

It’s the time of year that everybody loves. The temperatures across the country have started to dip and some areas are already seeing a bit of snow. People are out doing all of their holiday shopping. Lights and decorations start to adorn homes from the east coast to the west coast. In short, people everywhere are gearing up for the holiday season!

As one of the nation’s top freight trucking companies, we’re doing our part as well. “What does your heavy haul trucking company have to do with the holidays?” you ask? As a matter of fact, that is the very topic we would like to address in today’s blog. To see what we’re doing behind the scenes, keep reading!

We Serve a Wide Variety of Different Industries

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we offer a number of different services. From rigging to machinery moving to turnkey relocations and more, we’re proud to be able to help a wide variety of businesses to ensure that their needs are met. We serve a number of different industries (pharmaceutical, food and beverage, machine tool, telecommunications, defense contractors, power generation, homeland security, and biotech, just to name a few) and we always take pride in a job well done.

What that means is that we’re well equipped to handle a vast selection of different needs. That means that at any given moment, we could be transporting a shipment of toys from Point A to Point B. It means that we might be hauling a new company’s first collection of holiday cards from California to New York. Maybe it means that your favorite reindeer shaped snack is in stock at the local grocery store. It could even mean that the new inventory of the hottest seasonal item that was just delivered to your local big box store was dropped off by us.

In other words, we have undertaken a number of different jobs in the last few months that might be benefitting you behind the scenes in ways that you could never imagine. We drive coast to coast to make our drop offs and there’s nothing we love more than meeting our timelines so your customers can get exactly what they’re looking for when they are preparing for holiday parties.

What Pride in Performance Means to Us

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we strive to be one of the top trucking companies in the United States. If you’ve taken a look at our website, you’ve probably seen that we like to use the phrase “Pride in Performance” around here. To us, it’s more than a nice sounding sentiment; instead, it’s a motto that we take very seriously. Each member of our team knows the value of hard work and we are all dedicated to making your experience with us a great one.

But what else do we mean by that phrase? As a matter of fact, that’s the subject of today’s post. If you’re considering us for your freight trucking needs, keep reading, because we would like to share a few of the things that we believe make us unique in our industry!

The Value of Hard Work

Many people out there have a favorite president. For some, it’s the political actions of a particular president that makes them respect the work that he has done. For others, it’s that president’s dedication to getting the job done regardless of how they feel about his politics.

Around here, we’re pretty big fans of Theodore Roosevelt. A look back at some of this man’s accomplishments both in and out of the office are enough to make a modern man’s head spin. Roosevelt is known to many as a Rough Rider (according to Wikipedia, “The Rough Riders were mostly made of college athletes, cowboys, ranchers, miners, and other outdoorsmen” and they went on to become known as “Roosevelt’s Rough Riders”), but there is more to him than that.

You might also know Roosevelt for his depiction as one of the faces on Mount Rushmore–alongside Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and our first president, George Washington.

“Work Hard at Work Worth Doing”

What you may not know is that Roosevelt was born with a severe case of asthma which dominated his early life. Despite the challenges he faced, Roosevelt went on to become an avid outdoorsman, hunter, and explorer, among other things. He took up boxing, hiking, horseback riding, rowing, and tennis, and he even dedicated a portion of his time to learning the art of judo. In short, Roosevelt was a man of many passions and he dedicated himself thoroughly to each one in order to get the most out of it.

The legacy Roosevelt has left behind is a source of inspiration. It might not surprise you then that he is responsible for a number of great quotes, perhaps the best one being that “far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

What Does That Mean For Us?

As we said above, we strive to be one of the top trucking companies in the nation and we work hard to do that. We believe that helping people to get their shipment from Point A to Point B is the type of work that’s worth doing. It allows businesses across the United States to thrive. Small businesses grow and large businesses meet the growing needs of their dedicated customers. Someone needs to be there for the long haul and we’re up to the challenge.

Working hard at work worth doing is part of what we mean when we say that we take pride in performance. It isn’t always easy, but we are dedicated to doing the best job possible for each and every one of our clients. We know that you depend on us to help you get the job done right and we won’t let you down. At the end of the day, working hard is what drives us and we want you to know that we will always work hard for you.

We believe that our hard work behind the scenes is what helps to keep things running well. We’re not trying to take all of the credit here–indeed, it is your hard work that makes a difference in our country. Whether you’re a woodworker who just completed a collection of chairs that you need to get from Oregon to Maine or you’re someone who needs a large warehouse to store your inventory, you can count on the team at Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging to take great care of you!

We Travel Safely At This Time Of Year

As one of the top freight trucking companies in the nation, you can probably imagine that we have seen some truly inclement weather in our time on the road. As much as we love this time of year, it can make things a little tedious from time to time. When the snow starts to fall, most people dream about being at home with a fire burning and some hot cocoa in their favorite mug that’s keeping their hands warm while they watch a movie.

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we know that as a business owner, your schedule doesn’t start and stop at the convenience of the weather. When you need to get your goods from Point A to Point B, we’ll be here to help–even when the weather isn’t likely to cooperate. Wondering what that looks like? Keep reading to find out!

Safety Is Our Top Priority

We won’t try to deceive you–the reality of the matter is that sometimes the weather slows us down. This is a necessity though, because we feel a responsibility to ensure safety out on the roads when they are slick or when visibility is low. Not only are we responsible for our own safety, but we want to make sure that others who are out on the road are safe as well. Of course that is not where it ends because we’re also trying to ensure the safety of the items that we are transporting.

Our team makes it a top priority to ensure that our customers are satisfied in every aspect of the work we do. That’s why we make every effort to ensure that your project is completed on time and under budget, but we also feel a responsibility to take safety into consideration. At the end of the day, we believe that getting your items to their final destination in one piece is the most important thing when the weather is less than cooperative.

A Few Of The Things We’re Thankful For

As one of the top trucking companies in the nation, we have quite a lot to be thankful for. As you are no doubt aware, Thanksgiving is already tomorrow. It seems like just yesterday that we were spending time in our backyards with burgers and brats on the grill, watching the kids play little league games at the park, and sitting out on the porch with a cold drink and watching the sun go down.

Time sure does fly, but this is one instance where we’re glad that things are moving so quickly. Why is that, you ask? Well, to put it simply, it’s just because we are looking forward to celebrating the things we are thankful for with friends and family and great food! Our freight trucking company has been around for four decades and we are happy to say that we’re still going strong. That’s why, in keeping with the spirit of this holiday season, we thought we would take just a quick moment to share a few of the things that we are the most thankful for!

Our Freight Trucking Company Is Thankful For…

Our Customers

One of the biggest things we are thankful for is a job that we love doing. Life is just so much better when you’re able to enjoy what you do for a living and at Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we genuinely enjoy coming to work each day. We are fortunate to be surrounded by coworkers that we can also call our friends.

But none of this would be possible without our customers and so we would like to extend a huge thank you to each and every person who has given us their business. We know that you have some options when it comes to rigging companies, machinery relocation crews, and long haul trucking companies. We’re honored that you would choose to work with us to get your items from Point A to Point B.

The Open Road

We’re also very thankful for the opportunity to get out on the open road. It means that we get to see some of the best parts of our great country on a regular basis. There’s nothing we love more than cruising into a favorite city and pulling up to a restaurant we’ve been craving since the last time we were in town.

As you can probably imagine, we can sometimes be on a pretty tight schedule, but that certainly doesn’t stop us from taking in the sights when and where we can. In some instances, we’re able to pull over and enjoy the best things a city has to offer. Other times we simply try to appreciate them as we roll past. At the end of the day, however, we are simply thankful to be able to do what we do and see what we see and it’s one of the biggest benefits of being in our line of work.

Are You In Need of a Freight Trucking Company For Your Next Project?

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we absolutely love what we do and we wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. A Few of Our Favorite Songs About Being on the Road

Here at Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we always appreciate a good song about being out on the open road. With over forty years of experience in our industry, we’ve spent our fair share of time moving from one part of the country to the other. Whether that’s because of heavy haul equipment transport or simply getting your goods from Point A to Point B, we strive to be one of the top nationwide trucking companies that knows how to get the job done right.

In all of our time on the road, we’ve listened to a great deal of music. That’s why in today’s blog, we’ve made a list of our favorite songs about being out on the road and narrowed it down to the three that we think are the best. Wondering what made the cut? Keep reading to find out!

Ramblin’ Man by The Allman Brothers Band

With lyrics about “rollin’ down highway forty one,” Ramblin’ Man is surely one of the greatest songs about hitting the open road. The narrator in the song mentions being “on [his] way to New Orleans this morning” and “leaving out of Nashville, Tennessee.” Planning out a long trip is certainly something we can identify with.

This song is an absolute classic of Southern Rock and it’s one that’s been known to be the one that we crank up our stereos for when it comes on the radio.

Roadhouse Blues by Ryan Bingham

If you haven’t heard of Ryan Bingham yet, you’re missing out. In Roadhouse Blues, Bingham tells the story of a man who has been “paying them roadhouse dues since he was a young boy.” He also mentions riding eighteen wheelers out of New Mexico. It’s a rollicking country tune about life on the open road from one of country music’s most underrated artists.

I’ve Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash

Of course we had to save the best for last, didn’t we? I’ve Been Everywhere is a classic and we dare you not to tap your toe as the Man in Black talks about breathing mountain air as he travels across the country. Although the song wasn’t written by Cash, it became a staple in his catalog over the years. Over 90 different locations appear in the song and we as a freight trucking company can identify with the feeling of having been everywhere from Winnemucca to Mattawa to Bangor to Ombabika to Springfield to Houston.

We’re the Freight Trucking Company You Can Trust

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we don’t mind going everywhere for our clients. With a dedication to quality service at a fair price, you can rest assured that our heavy haul trucking company will take on any job with a smile on our faces. It’s as simple as that!

No matter the situation, we’re here to help. Request a quote online, let us know about your job, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

A Look Back at the Trucker Hat Part Two

In part one of our look back at the trucker hat, we discussed a little bit about the history of these iconic hats and where they got started. In the second part of our series, we’ll take a look at a few of the people who have helped to make them so famous in pop culture.

Wondering who we’ve picked as our favorite people to adopt this style? Keep reading to find out!

Dustin From Stranger Things

If you’ve been watching Netflix’s latest hit series, you probably know and love Dustin. Always bearing his signature toothy grin and quick with a hilarious retort, Dustin helps to keep things from getting too heavy on Stranger Things.

The first season of the show was met with critical acclaim and was loved by many, and if you haven’t seen the second season which recently premiered, it’s time to plan out a few nights to get caught up. The reviews are starting to roll in and the second season is shaping up to be even more enjoyable than the first! This of course is thanks in part to Dustin and the fact that he’s always wearing his red, white, and blue trucker hat.

Frank Rossitano

If you’ve ever seen an episode of 30 Rock, you probably remember Judah Friedlander’s character Frank Rossitano. Rossitano is known for wearing a different trucker hat in every episode of the hit show. The character is featured in all 138 episodes of the series and his hats often featured comical phrases such as “Ninja Expert,” “Arcade Champ,” “Mystery Solver,” “Alabama Legsweep,” “Alien Knight Force,” “Role Model,” “Pinball Mechanic,” “Monster Truck Wrestling,” and “Voted Twice.”

Needless to say, the hats that Frank wears have always been a hilarious addition to an already hysterical show that is written by and starring Tina Fey and often features the always-funny Alec Baldwin.

Dale Gribble

A fan favorite on King of the Hill, Dale Gribble (also occasionally known as Rusty Shackleford) is often seen wearing a blaze orange trucker hat. Known for believing just about every conspiracy theory in the book and being incredibly skeptical of the government, Dale also owns his own extermination business in the form of Dale’s Dead Bug.

If you’ve never seen King of the Hill, do yourself a favor and make it a priority. We think that you’ll agree that Dale Gribble is a highlight of the show and a source of constant humor in a show that’s known for being hilariously over the top.

We’re One of the Nation’s Top Freight Trucking Companies

At Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we will continue to wear trucker hats whether they’re in style or not. We also strive to be the best when it comes to freight trucking, heavy machinery moving, industrial rigging, and crating. A Look Back at the Trucker Hat Part One

There’s a famous saying out there that “the clothes make the man.” We’d like to narrow that phrase down just a little bit more and say that we believe that the hat makes the man. From Indiana Jones and his iconic brown fedora to Jake and Elwood Blues–the Blues Brothers–and their matching black hats to Sherlock Holmes and his deerstalker cap, hats have certainly helped to define people over the years.

But what does all of this have to do with our freight trucking company, you ask? We’re going to talk about trucker hats, of course! We mentioned in our previous post that truckers–whether intentionally or not–have been associated with fashion over the years. In many instances, truckers are simply wearing the clothes that are comfortable and help them to get the job done. That doesn’t mean that they haven’t been influential, however!

That’s why in today’s post we’d like to take a look at truckers hats, where they came from, and who is still wearing them today.

A Brief History

Originally given away for free–and who doesn’t like free clothing?–trucker hats, according to Wikipedia, are “also sometimes known as a ‘gimme [as in ‘give me’] cap’ or a ‘feed cap’ because this style of hat originated during the 1980s as a promotional give-away from U.S. feed or farming supply companies to farmers, truck drivers, or other rural workers.” In other words, many of us started wearing them because they were free. Well, that and because it’s much easier to throw a cap on in the morning than to comb your hair when you’re in the middle of a heavy equipment transport run.

Wikipedia also notes that for about forty years, from the 1930s to the 1970s, the truckers of the world were often provided with what we now consider mechanic’s caps. They go on to note that “by the early 1980s, this cap had been replaced with the modern five piece mesh trucker hats, which were given away at truck stops by companies like Mountain Dew, Budweiser, Shell oil, or John Deere to advertise their products.” These caps made the perfect gifts because they are relatively inexpensive to produce and many come with an adjustable plastic back, allowing companies to make one-size-fits-all versions instead of having to worry about having multiple products made for many different sized heads.

Viewed in the late 90s as something of a fashion trend, trucker hats became front and center nearly everywhere you looked. Unphased by whether what we were wearing was fashionable or not, we kept wearing the clothing that worked best for us. Regardless, these hats have been in the public eye pretty regularly over the years. Let’s take a quick look at a few of the people who were wearing them.

Ashton Kutcher

Most likely the face of trucker hats in the early 2000s, Ashton Kutcher was seen sporting a trucker hat regularly on his MTV show Punk’d. Known as a bit of a goofball, Kutcher is also famous for starring in That 70’s Show, Dude Where’s My Car?, and Two and a Half Men, but he has also taken more dramatic turns in films like The Butterfly Effect and Jobs, the film about the face of Apple, Steve Jobs.

Rarely seen without his trucker hat, Kutcher played practical jokes on everyone from Jason Bateman to Halle Berry to Beyonce to Jennifer Love Hewitt to Tony Hawk all while wearing his signature cap.

Stay Tuned for More!

In part two of our blog, we’ll take  a look at more people who have made it a point to wear trucker hats. Stay tuned!

You Can Thank Truckers For Some of the Coolest Clothing Around

Here at Stephen Izzi Trucking and Rigging, we love our jobs. As a matter of fact, we recently wrote about three reasons it’s great to be a truck driver, but there’s one thing we discovered that we left off of that list. What is that, you ask? The clothing, of course!

Now you might be wondering how it is that truckers have influenced the clothing that Americans wear on a regular basis, but the fact of the matter is that there’s been more of an influence than you might realize. Keep reading to learn about the origins of some of these fabled pieces of clothing and maybe pick up a bit of inspiration to try something new in your wardrobe!

Trucker Hats

According to an article on Wikipedia, trucker hats “originated during the 1980s as a promotional give-away from U.S. feed or farming supply companies to farmers, truck drivers, or other rural workers.” What that means is that many of us were getting these awesome hats for free. After all, is there anything better than free clothing? (Perhaps free food is better, but we digress.)

There have been a number of different iterations of trucker hats over the years, but the fact remains that they’re just as popular and sharp looking as ever. Many musicians and celebrities have taken to wearing trucker hats over the years to mixed responses, but we have to say that anything that Hank Williams III wears can’t really be all that bad! When the sun is shining and we’re out on the open road, a cheap pair of sunglasses and a trucker hat provide all the shade we need to stay safe out there.

Plaid Shirts

When you picture someone who works at a freight trucking company, what do you see in your mind’s eye? Chances are you see a plaid shirt. There are a number of different options out there, but many of us enjoy plaid year ‘round. When it’s warmer outside, you can find us in our trucks enjoying lighter plaid shirts. When the weather starts to cool off a bit, we’re the first to pull out our flannel shirts and prepare for the chill that shows up every time there’s a breeze.

But what exactly is it that makes us love them so much? For one, it’s pretty hard to find a bad looking plaid shirt. Sure, they exist, but for the most part, it’s a classic look that always looks good. Additionally, we’re big fans of this style of shirt because, as you can probably imagine, our clothing gets a bit wrinkled being in a vehicle for so long. Plaid shirts look great whether they’re freshly pressed or a little wrinkly.

Type III Jackets

Type III jackets, more commonly referred to as trucker jackets, have been a staple in American clothing for many years now. Invented by Levi’s–a company who has been around since the 1800s–pretty much everyone has had a trucker jacket at some point or another. Along with their iconic 501 jeans (another staple for many Americans), their denim jackets were first made in the early 1900s. Over time the jackets involved to include more features such as handwarmer pockets.

When the Type III jacket was introduced in the early 1960s, it immediately became a favorite of truckers thanks to its longer sleeve length which allowed truckers to keep their wrists warm even when their hands were on the wheel. Adjustable waist tabs make it possible for anyone to find their ideal fit and look pretty good doing it. Whether you get one in classic indigo, grey, or black, you too can look as good as a trucker in your Type III jacket!

Why Working for a Freight Trucking Company is the Best

It Puts You at Peace

Believe it or not, there is a certain amount of tranquility that a person can experience when they’re behind the wheel of a large truck. Once you are able to find your rhythm, traversing the highways and byways that America has to offer is unlike just about anything else you could ever experience. Don’t believe us? An article over on Vice recently described the experience of a person who has no background in trucking playing a trucking simulator for about 30 hours.

The writer of the article mentions a love for video games, but he later goes on to note that the game provided him with an opportunity for a bit of relaxation, noting that “it’s so relaxing, in fact, that it’s become an unexpected form of meditation for me.” It’s that type of experience we love ourselves!

We Get to See the Whole Country

It’s become easier than ever to get from one side of the country to the other thanks to commercial airports. Simply hop on a plane in Los Angeles and end up in Portland, Maine a few hours later. This is ideal for those going on vacation, but for others, getting something heavy from Point A to Point B is the goal and an airplane just won’t make sense–thankfully for us because we love exploring our country!

One of the great American dreams is to simply hop in your car and take a road trip and that’s something we are able to do on a regular basis. We get to see some of the best views the country has to offer from coast to coast. After all, not everyone can say that they’ve been to all fifty states, but many of our drivers boast that very claim.

The Food is Incredible

We have written about this in the past, but one of the biggest benefits of being out on the road is eating all of the incredible food that you find across our great nation! From truck stops to diners to meals with family members in different parts of the country, we love experiencing the food that is available across the country. Sure, we’re out and about and sometimes our routes and our schedules require us to move through certain areas without stopping, but when we are able to sit down to enjoy some food, it’s always absolutely delicious.

Who else gets to say that they’ve tried lobster rolls in Maine, hot chicken in Nashville, and street tacos from a taco truck in California? We’re all over the place and you had better believe that we make the most of our time in different parts of the country by enjoying all of the best foods that those places have to offer.
